12 February 2010
Bupa has been named as the best medical insurance provider for people living abroad by Investment International.
The publication gave Bupa the accolade, which was decided by a public vote for the first time this year.
A recent report by PMI Global found that a number Brits working abroad are not being provided with adequate health cover by their employers.
The study found that 20 per cent are not given the correct health insurance and almost half neglect to organise vaccinations.
Tim Slee, Bupa International’s sales director, said that the company has 7,500 participating hospitals worldwide and is able to organise repatriations when needed.
"Our multi-lingual advisers speak more than 30 languages and can help with everything from minor injuries and routine healthcare appointments to emergency evacuation," he explained.
The company currently provides healthcare for 800,000 expatriates.
Other problems which were identified in the report by PMI Global included issues with the level of access to psychological care and advice on where to seek medical treatment.
