Ziraat Bankasi to open 5 branches in Bulgaria

Turkish state-owned lender Ziraat Bankasi plans to open five branches in Bulgaria, the bank’s general manager Can Akin Caglar said in an interview with local daily “Sabah”. The Turkish bank, one of the biggest players in the Turkish market, is currently in talks with Bulgaria’s Central Bank on the issue.
Caglar also said that Ziraat Bankasi aims to have presence in any country where Turkish investors do business.
Ziraat opened its first Bulgarian office in 1998 in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia. Ziraat Bank Bulgaria had assets of 48.334 million levs in June 2008, according to central bank data. The bank’s corporate and retail loan portfolio amounted to 13.8 million levs.
